BBC News Night

Started by: First Mate (2398)

Finally it’s been confirmed that Newsnight is getting the snip, losing 10 minutes of airtime along with its investigative department. More studio debates will replace them. The BBC is hoping that’ll save £7.5 million. It needs to save £500 million thanks to the two-year licence fee freeze…

Get rid of some of the weather reporters. The weather report is shown on the national news then two minutes later it is shown again on the regional news. Also get rid of a lot of the sports pundits who talk drivel before during and after any sports programme. whether it be football or rugby league. At one time there was commentary from one person two at the most now there are 5 or 6 along with camera men sound technicians directors and uncle tom cobbler and all Has any one looked at the credits when any programme as finished you can make a cuppa and the credits would still be rolling

Absolutely agree with you Roylew , i have to say that today in any sport "We do not have a decent commentator" I believe they have not got a clue of how to report on a match , and the people i truly feel for is our brethern who's sight is impaired and rely on commentary , they do not have a clue as to what's happening on the field .Gone are the days of EDDIE WARING / Kenneth Wolstenholme / Kieth Macklyn etc These so-call commentatore talk about everything under the sun exept something for which they are paid far far too much to do,
AS for newsnight cutting back ,I WOULD GO FURTHER AND TAKE THE DAMN PROGRAMME OFF ALTOGETHER .

Newsnight came into it's own during the Falklands War in 1982, because at that time you only had the normal news bulletins of the time, which were the One O'Clock - Six O'Clock and the Nine or Ten O'Clock news, but Newsnight which has always been broadcast at the 10.30pm time slot, would go into in depth reports on the progress of the Falklands Task Force, which was on it's way to the Falklands, and then on about the war itself, but that was over 40yrs ago, and now in these days of multiple 24hr news channels, it is probably time to move on, but I think that in its time, it has done its job well

And take off all the cookery programmes.. Saturday morning...s One after another. With "Celebrity Guests" (most I have never heard of?) But are always advertising their new book or latest concert. I would like to know how many ordinary people make those dishes they serve up?? With all the ingredients you need it would cost a fortune. Just got a quick look at last week's programme and the chef was using Vanilla Pods Have you seen the cost of them??? Never heard any of the "Guests" say it was CRAP.. Before the food hits their mouth they are saying" BEAUTIFUL, BEST THING I'VE TASTED"etc etc. These programmes or so patronising it makes you sick. Add to the GET RID LIST "THE ONE SHOW" I hate that tune and another patronising 1/2 hour Rant over...

They are hard to watch when the guest all start to applaud one another, and the football announcers start to burst into fits of laughter
for no apparent reason,
